De Coöperant VZW
Mission
De Coöperant VZW promotes a democratic economy, an economy in which people can participate actively and as equals in decision-making.
vision
De Coöperant VZW considers active democratic participation to be a prerequisite for an economy that strengthens ecological stability and human well-being.

Charter
The world is at a turning point. The ecological crisis, characterised by climate change, loss of biodiversity and environmental pollution, threatens the stability of our planet and the well-being of current and future generations. It is clear that urgent measures are needed to ensure a liveable future.
Although governments and individual citizens are making efforts to combat this crisis, these are often insufficient to address the scale and urgency of the problems. Legislation and personal actions are necessary, but they cannot solve the deep-rooted systemic issues on their own.
Businesses have a huge impact on the environment and society. Although there is growing awareness of their social responsibility, many companies are still driven by short-term profits at the expense of sustainability and employee well-being. This prevents them from contributing fully to a solution.
That is why the transition to a social and democratic economy is essential. An economy in which people can participate in decision-making as equals and where the focus is on community well-being and ecological stability rather than maximum profit. This model promotes sustainability, social justice and economic stability.
Through cooperation and solidarity, we can create an economy that connects people rather than dividing them. Cooperation leads to innovation, resilience and a stronger community. This stands in stark contrast to competition, which often has a destructive effect on both society and the environment.
De Coöperant VZW develops and supports projects based on cooperation and participation. These can range from local solidarity cafés to community-oriented urban agriculture and from circular supermarkets to shared workspaces. Our projects aim to give everyone a voice and create collective benefits.
We are committed to raising awareness and spreading knowledge about the necessity and possibilities of a democratic economy. Through workshops, publications, events and collaborations with other organisations, we inform people and mobilise them to actively participate in the transition.
Relationship with Coop Centraal
Coop Centraal CVSO is a project of De Coöperant VZW. The Coop is a neighbourhood shop in Statiestraat that focuses on sustainable, affordable food. Through tasting sessions, lectures, film screenings and running the shop, we encourage the growth of a social and sustainable food chain.
